What is MagSafe?

Apple has always been known for groundbreaking and forward-looking developments. One of them is MagSafe . The company introduced the innovation back in 2006 together with the first generation of the MacBook Pro. It was intended to enable improved and particularly safe charging. In 2017, the technology was forgotten at Apple: critics still claim to this day that it was simply rationalized away. Since 2020, it has been back, finally on the iPhone too. Fortunately, because Mag Safe is a super practical invention with real advantages!
How exactly does MagSafe work?
The term MagSafe is made up of "magnet" and "safe", which describes the purpose of the technology quite accurately. It involves magnets that have been placed around the charging coil inside the device. Compatible accessories can thus be docked quickly, safely and precisely, without a conventional mechanical connection. When charging an iPhone wirelessly, MagSafe also ensures that the device is optimally aligned.
What advantages does MagSafe offer me?
MagSafe means that - unlike with traditional charging using the Qi standard - you no longer have to pay meticulous attention to ensuring that your phone is in the perfect position and does not slip. The magnets automatically align it precisely. Charging efficiency and speed are also significantly improved. Docking and releasing is child's play and is almost "blind": without any annoying fumbling. In car mounts, MagSafe ensures that the iPhone is held securely even when cornering and braking. Originally, however, MagSafe had a completely different purpose, as it can of course also prevent damage if the charging cable becomes a "tripping hazard". So if you accidentally get caught on the cable, the entire iPhone or laptop will not be pulled along, only the contact plug will come loose. The plug and socket remain intact.
Is MagSafe worth it?
Whether protective cases, chargers or photography products, there are now more and more MagSafe accessories and the range is constantly being expanded. The products also impress visually with their modern aesthetics.
Good to know: iPhones from the twelfth generation onwards are compatible with MagSafe .
